I am the Team Manager or Coach. How do I access team contact lists:
Once registered in PlayHQ, the registrar will grant team coaches and managers ‘view’ access for their team. This allows them to access their team (‘squad’), and player contact details. Access is as follows:
- Log into your PlayHQaccount – If you have more than one account, log into the account associated with your coaching/managing registration. Your access is via that registration.
- Select the tab for your profile – If there are multiple profiles in your account (parents, children, or siblings), ensure you select your profile; the access is only available through your profile.
- Select the ‘My Teams’ tab – If you have multiple sports linked to your account, check you are viewing the ‘Basketball ACT’ teams (switch sports if needed).
- Select the team you are coaching/managing – If you have multiple teams, check you have accessed the right team.
- Select the ‘Squad’ tab.
- Select the ‘Arrow’ for each player individually to access their contact details. If you cannot see the arrows on the right-hand side of each player, please scroll across.
* When does training start?
- Your coach can start training from the beginning of Term 4 (week starting Monday, 14 October).
- Please wait for your coach or manager to get in touch with you about training, including the time of your weekly training session.
* What time are the games?
Download the MyHoops App and follow the team your son/s is in.
* What do players wear?
- Club playing singlets – The club provides all players with a playing singlet (jersey) to use during the season. Singlets are issued directly to each player at the commencement of the season (to ensure they fit) and are returned at its conclusion (or on a player’s departure from the school/club if this occurs before the end of the season). Any unreturned singlets will incur a $70 fee payable to the club.
- Issue of playing singlets – Summer Season – Playing singlets/jerseys for the summer season will be issued after-school in the second week of Term 4. Players are required to attend in accordance with the schedule to be released by the club.
- Club shorts and socks – Marist College Basketball shorts and socks are to be worn for all games. The club’s shorts and socks are sold by the school Uniform Shop and can be bought at any time through their online shop or by visiting the school.
- Basketball shoes – Although not compulsory, it is advised that players wear shoes designed for basketball during training and games; this will ensure they are provided the required stability. Runners are acceptable; however, black soled shoes are not allowed on Marist or Basketball ACT indoor courts at any time.
- Training ball – All players must take a basketball to their scheduled training session. When buying a ball, please consider the surface/s it will be used on as these vary – indoor and/or outdoor. Please ensure all balls are clearly labelled with the player’s name.
- Training singlet – Although not compulsory, it is preferred that boys wear a reversable singlets/shirts during training. The club sells its old playing singlets for use as training singlets for this reason (singlet sale timings will be released by the club). If they do not have a reversable singlet, most boys wear their school sports or house t-shirts. Players are not required or encouraged to wear professional basketball league singlets for training.
- Club merchandise – The club will from time-to-time order or sell specific club merchandise, including warm-up or supporter tops. Merchandise opportunities will be communicated by the club.
* How do I register my son?
The Marist Basketball Summer registration is now open. Registration closed 30 August 2024.
Players should register prior to grading here: https://www.playhq.com/basketball-act/register/b72e51
More information is here: Marist Basketball Club and here Basketball ACT for Juniors
* Can my son join a basketball team in Summer if he plans to attend Marist next year?
Yes! New students to Marist College in 2025 are encouraged to join a Marist Summer team in 2024.
We have lots of new students starting Marist in 2025 that have registered to play basketball!
* Can I ask to change teams?
No, we cannot accept requests to change teams. We encourage parents or carers to talk with your boy about the importance of using this summer season to excel in their assigned team – emphasizing the significance of listening to their coach and being a supportive, team-oriented player to enhance a positive team environment.
Team Selection Process
The team selection process involves multiple steps, involving:
- grading
- feedback from coaches about the past season
- team balance – ensuring a variety of height and skill in each team, where possible
- a meeting of our dedicated Team Selection Committee, in collaboration with the College.
Given the careful consideration that has gone into this process, we want to emphasize that there will be no further movements or team changes, except in exceptional circumstances and any such requests will need to be approved by the Sport Department at the College.
The summer season lasts for 10 weeks and is an opportunity for players to showcase their skills, particularly where players have moved up an age group. The Team Selection Committee will review player performance during this time, along with coach feedback, to inform decisions about Winter teams in 2025.
For any inquiries or feedback regarding individual players, please refer to the policies and FAQs available on our website before reaching out to the Club.
* Can my son play two sports?
This is a decision for the family, and it might be helpful to phone the College to discuss this.
The decision should align with the Marist Basketball policies:
Officials and Policies (maristbasketball.com)
Codes of Conduct (maristbasketball.com)
The Basketball Club is required to field 5 players each game plus subs. This has been difficult in the past when students decide to play another sport and they cannot make the game time. The team would be responsible for forfeit fees or possible disqualification in the event 1 or more players decide to prioritise a different sport.
* Do I need to pay the Basketball Australia (BA) Levy again?
Basketball ACT has been working with Play HQ to consider the options in how they can address the BA Levy.
After discussions with PlayHQ and looking at what options are available, Basketball ACT have determined that unfortunately some players who register for Junior Summer 2024/2025 will pay the BA levy again for this Summer due their 365-day BA registration expiring on the 15 of March 2025 and the Summer Season not finishing until the 22-23 of March.
Please note this will add another 12 months onto their memberships which will in turn cover their Basketball Australia registration until the 15 of March 2026. Based on this they will not be required to pay the BA Levy at the start of the 2025 Winter Junior Competition. This information will be displayed on a participants registration information when they review their Play HQ profile.
* Can my son play in a team with his friends?
One of the purposes of school sport is to allow boys to make new friends. In theory, this would be a great idea, however, the school policy does not allow boys to be specifically allocated to teams based on peer groups.
In practicality, the school has specifically asked sports to not take friendships into consideration when selecting teams, due to the logistical problems associated with this. MCCBC grades some 400 boys into 50 teams in their correct age groups and divisions, which is a long process. It is important that players are graded into a division that suits their skill level as it is not beneficial for the players to have significant and varying skill level within a team.
The selection committee does take College pastoral care reasons / coach feedback into consideration, where certain boys do or don’t work well together. MCCBC does try to ensure that boys are placed into teams with at least 1-2 of their year group. MCCBC also ensures that new students are grouped with other new students where possible.
* How can I volunteer to help with basketball?
Please consider coaching or managing a team over summer. You can register your interest here: https://www.maristbasketball.com/summer-season/expression-of-interest-to-coach-manage/
* When is grading?
The grading sessions will be used to grade each player into the appropriate division based on performance, coachability and coach feedback. All students that register to play will be placed into a team.
